Battery Townsley Hike

Just returning from an LA weekend trip.
Never seen Catalina from above.
Hiking Headlands, a beach and protected park located just above the Golden Gate.

The beach was really fine sand and dog friendly, definitely want to plan a trip for little Obi to run around here.

Not the worst place in the world to do a little walk.

The battery was one of several defensive bases that housed huge cannons. During WWII, there was concern that the Japanese would attack the California, so the US installed several of these along the coast.
When I say huge cannon, I'm not kidding. It's basically a rifle, except the bullets were 16" caliber and weighed over 2100lbs. FOR JUST THE BULLETS. Suckers could go as far as 25 miles.

Wasn't able to go further than the battery this day, but I'll return to go to the top of the hills.
